Seattle – August 18, 2009 – Attachmate today announced that Jay Gardner has been appointed as senior vice president and general manager of the NetIQ business unit. Responsible for engineering, product management, marketing, technical support, sales and operational functions, Gardner will help to further define and execute NetIQ’s market vision and business strategy.
“Jay’s knowledge and experience in our markets – both from a sales and operational standpoint – coupled with a unique customer-centric perspective as a former CIO, are impressive and will serve to provide deeper value and benefit to NetIQ customers,” comments Jeff Hawn, chief executive officer, Attachmate. “We are equally enthused about what Jay will add to our company as a visionary, mentor and seasoned industry veteran as he leads NetIQ along the future path of IT management.”
Gardner joins NetIQ from his position as a venture advisor for DFJ Mercury. He is also an 18-year BMC Software veteran, where he most recently served as vice president and general manager of the BMC On Demand business unit. During his tenure, Gardner served as CIO where he instituted a business-funded IT model, helping the company to streamline the IT approval process and save millions of dollars in return. Prior to the CIO role, he held a series of sales and worldwide operations positions that supported the company’s significant year over year growth. Additionally, he helped architect the company’s Business Service Management (BSM) strategy, launched an IT governance council and ultimately aligned the internal organization with the goals of the business.
“Joining Attachmate affords me the opportunity to combine my operations, technology and sales background to better serve the NetIQ community,” said Gardner. “Today’s IT and Security professionals face daunting tasks to deliver more services securely, improve efficiencies and minimize enterprise risk. I am excited to work with the NetIQ teams around the globe to optimize the experience and success our customers achieve with our solutions.”
Before his time at BMC Software, Gardner spent ten years in various management and sales positions at IBM. As a result of his leadership in the technology industry, Gardner was a finalist for the prestigious Gartner CIO Choice Award, in addition to being named by Computerworld as a Premier 100 IT Leader. He has spoken at numerous industry events, including Computerworld Premier 100 IT Leaders conference as well as various events sponsored by CXO Media, Forrester Research and Gartner, Inc. Currently, he serves as an advisor or board member for several organizations, including Phurnace Software, Inc., Fluensee, Inc., Sirius Solutions and Texas Christian University’s regional council and Management Information Systems program.
