Attachmate Offers Enhanced Solutions for CICS- and IMS-Based Integration

Verastream Transaction Integrator 4.0, Verastream Bridge Integrator 3.0 Help Transactional-heavy Organizations Move into the SOA Business Era

LAS VEGAS, December 3, 2007 – Attachmate Corporation today announced the release of two new versions of its Verastream® legacy integration software, designed specifically for demanding, high-performance transactional environments. The launch of Verastream Transaction Integrator 4.0 and Verastream Bridge Integrator 3.0 continue Attachmate’s support for service oriented architecture (SOA)-based mainframe integration, and provide customers in transactional-heavy industries, such as financial services, insurance and retail, with faster, easier and more reliable methods to maximize the value of their mainframe assets as they adopt an SOA.

Attachmate is showcasing its entire family of Verastream host integration solutions at the Gartner Application Architecture, Development and Integration Summit held at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada from December 3-5, 2007.

“Most financial institutions today rely on mainframe applications for high-volume, high-availability transaction processing, but these same applications pose a virtual roadblock to SOA implementation,” said Eric Varness, vice president of marketing at Attachmate. “Verastream helps organizations in transactional-heavy industries to easily transform their aging legacy applications into a robust foundation for an SOA platform by exposing business processes as reusable Web services, XML, JavaBeans and .NET components.”

Verastream Transaction Integrator and Verastream Host Integrator’s design environment was created specifically to allow CICS developers to easily represent specific CICS business processes without requiring advanced CICS skills. This gives organizations access to the most efficient and reliable methods available for CICS application access, while helping them save time and money.

One of the largest state departments in California, the Employment Development Department (EDD), leverages Verastream Transaction Integrator to verify claimant identity in real-time, helping EDD reduce the likelihood of insurance fraud.

Verastream Transaction Integrator 4.0 Eases CICS and IMS Service-Enablement

Verastream Transaction Integrator 4.0 offers superior performance and reliability to meet the demands of high-throughput, high-availability transactional environments while masking the complexity of programs developed for CICS and IMS transactional environments. It offers a new intuitive graphical user interface, Verastream Transaction Designer, that provides enhanced support for complicated copybook structures, allowing developers to import and graphically represent copybooks that contain complicated structures. This enables virtually all CICS and IMS programs to be easily consumed and used within a simple graphical designer.

Other key features of Verastream Transaction Integrator 4.0 include:

  • Standard, open interfaces to all programs developed in the CICS and IMS environments;
  • An import utility that lets you leverage existing metadata definitions and create XML-based metadata;
  • Native security support, including RACF, ACF2 and TopSecret; and,
  • Ability to save transactions in the format that is native to a client application, Microsoft BizTalk Server or any J2EE-compliant application server.

Verastream Bridge Integrator 3.0 Offers Enhanced Performance and Security for CICS Integration

Verastream Bridge Integrator is a native, mainframe-resident adapter that offers reliable, high-performance integration of CICS applications by providing developers with direct access to a wide range CICS applications residing in or across CICS regions via IBM Transaction Server v2.2 or higher. Unlike other industry solutions, Verastream Bridge Integrator does not require developers to rely on IBM CICS Universal Client libraries or expertise in COBOL intricacies to create new applications, making it quick and easy-to-use. Through a powerful modeling tool requiring only an intuitive understanding of target applications, CICS application services can be built to accommodate any number of popular SOA technologies.

With version 3.0, Verastream Bridge Integrator now offers CICS-resident management and control of Terminal IDs, providing improved performance and fault tolerance through a simplified architecture during Multi-Region Operation (MRO) interactions. The new offering also helps ensure the integrity and privacy of data in motion, which is essential to commercial businesses and is required by government organizations, by securing host assets with SSL.

Other key features of Verastream Bridge Integrator 3.0 include:

  • Broad client-platform support, including EJB, JCA RA, COM (+), and .NET-managed Web services;
  • Assignable Terminal ID support for state management;
  • Interception of CICS 3270 Terminal I/O, bypassing VTAM for faster processing;
  • No modifications to the CICS 3270 application or generation of BMS maps;
  • Native, mainframe-resident connector running with IBM CICS Transaction Server and IBM CICS Web Services on OS/390; and,
  • Lightweight requestor/redirector that implements a simple API for stateless or stateful interactions
