SEATTLE – Mar. 29, 2010 – Attachmate Corporation today announced that the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has successfully standardized its host access software systems across the entire organization using Attachmate® EXTRA!® X-treme. In addition, Attachmate helped the Florida DEP streamline its asset management processes, lowering administrative and operational overhead and boosting end-user productivity.
DEP is the state’s lead agency for environmental management and stewardship with more than 20 different Divisions and Offices protecting air, water and land as well as managing Florida’s state parks and other natural resources. Historically, each of these organizations had its own IT budget and software management solutions creating a highly decentralized environment. Realizing they could significantly reduce software procurement and management costs if they standardized their host access software, the Florida DEP turned to Attachmate to help them centralize their existing IT investments and streamline their software asset management processes.
“We had a strategic objective to migrate our existing legacy host access software from each Division and Office into one standardized platform across the entire agency which at the time, seemed like a daunting task,” said John Willmott, chief information officer for DEP. “Attachmate was the silver lining in the cloud that enabled us to achieve this critical objective by bringing together all of our existing host access software into one framework that employees across the organization could access.”
EXTRA! X-treme provides organizations with maximum security when accessing valuable legacy host data, a variety of robust features for enhancing user productivity, and the ability to seamlessly integrate with new and evolving technologies. In addition, EXTRA! X-treme is built to safeguard data in motion, boost user productivity and make reliable connections from any desktop to any host.
“Host access has been used by many organizations for more than two decades. Over this time, organizations have used a variety of deployment strategies using multiple vendors to solve a wide range of problems, creating a diverse and complicated deployment that is inefficient to manage,” said Eric Varness, vice president of marketing for Attachmate. “Our support for a wide variety of host types coupled with the robustness built over 20 years of experience enables us to provide our customers with a single host access solution that can meet all of their needs. We’re pleased we could help DEP evolve from highly decentralized host access to an agency-wide standardized system.”
