Bellevue, Wash.—April 6, 2004—Attachmate Corporation announced today that Harbor Federal Savings Bank (Nasdaq: HARB), has selected Attachmate® myEXTRA!™ Smart Connectors for UTS/T27 to expand its online banking service. Smart Connectors allow developers to securely expose legacy data and business logic for use in new applications, without making changes to the mainframe. Smart Connectors implement a service-oriented architecture (SOA) to granularly access legacy data and encapsulate it in a reusable (JavaBeans™, Web services, XML) format.
Harbor Federal launched online services in 1999, offering external funds transfers and commercial services. The bank will implement Smart Connectors to automate processes from the front-end user interface by making the link to back-end host functions necessary to complete transactions. Processes previously done manually, like stop-pay, will be automated. New commercial services will include positive pay, wire transfer, and ACH origination over the Web.
Harbor Federal wanted a simple, easy-to-maintain solution plus the flexibility of integrating data from multiple sources, such as a SQL database. "We looked at other vendors, but there was a breakdown when they were required to talk to the host," said Annetta Smith, IT director for Harbor Federal. "Attachmate expertise in Unisys host access was essential." myEXTRA! Smart Connectors provide access to T27 applications on Unisys® ClearPath® NX Series hosts, and access to UTS applications on Unisys ClearPath IX Series hosts.

Currently, Harbor Federal has about 24,000 commercial and retail customers online. Migration to Smart Connector technology will be completed by June, 2004.
